Air Force selects IEM to develop an autonomous missile silo inspection system,
Saturday, Sep 15, 2018

International Electronic Machines, a world leader in handheld, nondestructive evaluation and autonomous robotic systems, has been awarded a Phase I SBIR from the U.S. Air Force to develop a system and method to perform rapid, efficient inspections of missile silos. These silos are very tall, steel-lined structures encased in concrete, making it impossible to directly examine the exterior side of the interior structural steel support liner. IEM is developing an Autonomous Climbing Inspector – a self-propelled and guided robotic nondestructive examination platform which will navigate and inspect the entire interior surface of any such silo, ensuring the structural integrity, and thus operability, are maintained.
