WHY IEM

International Electronic Machines Corporation established in 1987 is a high-technology research, development, and manufacturing firm with about 24 employees are ISO 9001 certified, located in Troy, New York, USA, with emphasis on products and services for the railway and transportation markets.

For over 35 years, IEM has been conducting business with Federal & State Agencies alongside private industry, starting with the invention of the Electronic Wheel Gauge (EWG): an advanced-technology, handheld wheel measurement gauge for the railroad industry. The EWG is the only alternative technology for wheel measurement approved by the FRA and the AAR and is now utilized in over 15 countries worldwide.

IEM has designed, patented, and installed the world’s most technically advanced automatic wayside rolling stock measurement inspection systems at over 40 locations internationally. We developed our WISE® suite of inspection technologies to address the specific challenges faced by the railroad industry.

IEM’s WISE Systems at various locations have been operating 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year for many years (over hundreds of millions of measurements), measuring tens-of- thousands of wheels per day with a performance rate at +95% and an average false-positive (FP) rate below 1%. This is the benchmark of the railway industry.

For complex projects, IEM has a unique railroad metrology eco-system consisting of a large, experienced team. This team has been used by IEM to solve some of the most complex measurement and monitoring problems in railway, aviation, defense, marine, and other sectors.

In summary, IEM is the only company who can deliver advanced, custom solutions based on its long history, strengths, and Intellectual Property (IP), without worrying about IP infringement.

It is important to emphasize that all these innovations were developed in-house by a core group of engineering talent that is continuously pushing the envelope on product performance. We did not purchase the rights to this technology; we developed it and own the rights ourselves.

That means when new challenges emerge, we bring with us three decades of experience in the technology, software, and rail industry-specific information to create solutions that work.

The result of IEM's culture of innovation is that IEM owns the largest intellectual property portfolio in this space. All the technologies presented in this proposal are covered by IEM’s patents.

IEM’s entire product line in automated wayside inspection of rail cars and locomotives are all parts of the WISE family of products. This means all products have a common user interface and standards for both physical and digital data maintenance.
