Portable Vibration Monitoring System - Technical Information
IEM’s Portable Vibration Monitoring System (PVS-7500) measures the level of ambient vibration in a location. It is extremely accurate and sensitive with very low noise. Using an optional attachment, the level of magnetic interference can also be determined.
The PVS-7500 is a purpose-built, “plug-and-play” system. The sensors are fully integrated and pre-calibrated, so that a user can begin taking measurements almost immediately.
The PVS 7500 is an extremely accurate, ultra-low noise device with excellent linearity. The extreme sensitivity ( 1 microinch/sec) of the PVS-7500 permits measurements to guarantee compliance with Vibration Standard VC-E over the full range from 8-100 Hz in standard 1/3 octave bands. This capability useful for anyone who needs accurate measurements of ambient vibration, for example, measuring the vibrations of subway trains passing beneath a research facility or a hospital.
Likewise, the optional magnetometer attachment can measure magnetic energy to determine the effect a large electromagnetic body, such as a subway train, may have on surrounding objects. For example magnetic field measurements are sensitive enough (~0.1 milligauss) to detect the static presence of a short subway train 100 ft. below the surface.
Data Collection
The PVS 7500 supports two modes of data collection:
-
Foreground mode: In this mode, the user can interact with the PVS software. A user can look at notifications from the software in real time as well as start or stop data collection. However, the user’s computer must always be connected to the PVS. This mode is most useful when data collected is in short durations (in hours).
-
Background mode: In this mode, the user can configure and start data collection then disconnect their computer from the PVS. They can reconnect to the PVS unit at a later time and download data from the unit. This mode is intended to be used to collect long duration data (in days or months).
Operating System
The PVS 7500 software has an easy to use graphic user interface that can accessed via an optional laptop. The PVS is compatible with Windows 7 OS and up.
This graphical interface enables the user to view the data in an easy to understand table or graph. The interface assists with the setup and customization of the PVS, including programming the sampling rate and antialiasing filters (frequency and characteristic). Data is stored on an 8GB SD card, and it can be analyzed with the included software or exported to other applications or a central database in standard CSV format.
Benefits & Details:
The PVS 7500 has a several ports. (See image below). It can be connected to up to two geophones and one magnetometer. There is also an Ethernet port.
Portable and Rugged
The PVS 7500 is portable and rugged and fits in a suitcase-sized case. With a pull-out handgrip and wheels it can be pulled behind the operator for easy transport. The casing and monitoring attachments are rated as IP67.
